Eugene, OR, US
I have worked a lot with "mentally ill" teens and adults in residential care and have helped two friends through psychiatric crises without drugs. Also I have an extensive background in nutrition/alternative diets. There are alternatives to drugs when dealing with schizophrenia and other imbalances. See the website and work of Peter Breggin, such as the book "Your Drug May be Your Problem". (I am not always opposed to drug treatment, just know there are other things to try first.)
I have a fair amount of knowledge and can advise on many garden situations.
Experienced house sitter. Have taken care of chickens, horses, very spoiled cats, gardens, etc. References available.

I started this "Group" while serving the community as a Fire Fighter/Medic last July 2022. It was intended to network all of us who have ever enjoined or taken part in this community at any time in our lives or those who hope to go in the future. It is still a magical place. I have started "Pay It Forward" effort for Coffee and other things people might forget to bring out there while enjoining the area. Please join and share your gifts and experience.

Crocosmia is a genus of flowering plants in the iris family (Iridaceae), native to South Africa. They’re known for their striking, arching sprays of bright funnel-shaped flowers in shades of red, orange, and yellow that bloom in mid-to-late summer.
Here are some key points:
🌱 Growth habit: Herbaceous perennials with sword-like, pleated green leaves. They grow from underground corms (like gladiolus).
🌸 Flowers: Appear in succession along arching stems, making them especially graceful in garden borders. Popular varieties include Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ (fiery red), Crocosmia ‘Emily McKenzie’ (orange with red centers), and Crocosmia ‘George Davison’ (golden yellow).
🌍 Uses: Ornamental in gardens for color and pollinator attraction (especially hummingbirds and butterflies).
☀️ Care: Thrive in full sun with well-drained soil; moderately drought-tolerant once established. Hardy in USDA zones 5–9, though in colder areas they may need mulching or lifting/storing corms over winter.
🌿 Spreading: Can naturalize and spread by corm offsets; in some regions, they can become invasive if not managed.
Would you like me to create a care and propagation guide (step-by-step) for crocosmia, or more of a landscape design guide showing how to use them effectively with other plants?

Mary Bowers expressed gratitude for Kris Topaz
Kris initially offered gladiolus bulbs, then generously added borage, comfrey, columbines and a fern! My friend and I are so grateful and her garden (and the pollinators!) will be much better off for seasons to come! Thank you!
